After two lockdowns and school children seemingly learning anywhere but the classroom – the academic world is starting to slowly get back to pre-covid normality.
As soon as Boris Johnson announced a UK wide lockdown in March 2020, hospitality as an industry ceased to exist; However, due to the fact that so many of our front-line Key Workers were needed up and down the country, their children still had to be in school and therefore, be fed. Cue teachers and school caterers co-ordinating an almost bespoke service for their pupils.
During Covid, Hobbs School Catering were making packed lunches each day and delivering them to schools across Bedfordshire, as well as hot lunches for those who had to isolate in bubbles. Maintaining our high standards whilst in the grip of a pandemic wasn’t easy – but hopefully the pupils and staff we fed throughout were happy with our ‘lockdown lunches’.
However – we are now back!
With Schools back and Covid cases levelling out, we are hopeful that with common sense and a lot of handwashing, a third lockdown can be kept at bay; meaning that children can have a relatively normal school experience and hospitality can begin to flourish once again. We are still offering a take-away service in some of our units (where space is limited) to avoid any infection rates spiking, as well as smaller queues and staggered lunch breaks.
